Nice museum, but we were expecting much more given the very large space. Could be better organized and have more exhibits, not just pictures though the pictures they had were quite interesting.
The museum has very limited hours, so if you have a real job, weekends will probably be the only time you can go. We went on a Sunday in July and it was not crowded at all.
If you live locally, I would recommend visiting with free ticket tickets which you can get at the Miami-Dade Public Library. If you are visiting from out of town, and have limited time, I would recommend prioritizing other museums and places over this one.
One note, there are quite a few homeless people and those who appear to be on drugs in the area, but not anything like you might find in LA or other cities, and they can largely be avoided by simply walking around them. Just be careful., You have got to experience the guided tour. It was very educational and fun. The gentleman who did our tour was very nice and informative. After the tour, he helped my kids find a few items on their scavenger hunt, asking them if they knew what the item was, and then explained the items to them if they didn't. I plan on coming back in August with the kids, as I was advised that they were going to have an exhibit on the second floor of the south building., Moderate sized, well done history museum. Located in the government center downtown, which is an iffy area so be aware of your surroundings. The museum is housed in two buildings off a large courtyard which includes the main public library. Modern decor, clean and organized. Thorough review of Miami history. There are a couple of interactive learning stations for the kids and a dominos table. There's a mini theatre with a short film of Miami history, a full sized trolley car you can walk onto, a Cuban refugee raft, and American Indian artifacts. They have history lectures by the resident historian that you can sign up for in advance. It's a separate ticket ($15)., What a great educational place, so happy we finally got to experience! A little bit for everyone, interactive fun for kids, fantastic exhibits for all! Mythic creatures is an amazing experience, go see it before its done!! Convenient parking and an easy walk to the both buildings of the Museum. Thank you!, The museum space itself os fantastic. Its not too crowded with exhibits and the supporting documentation was great. The North museum had some really cool things that were really interesting.
