Great atmosphere, mediocre nachos. Born in raised in New Hampshire and grew up as a New England sports fan, I was drawn to the nostalgic and fun decor. Boston sports fans heaven. However, the nachos were a disappointment. The random bits of brown lettuce thrown on top was awful, never seen anything like that. The quality was subpar, not much cheese and for the price I expected better. Its a disappointment spending that much on restaurant nachos to get that. Me and my girlfriend took 3 bites and couldn’t finish it. Definitely would like to come back at one point though to try out another appetizer though, as one food item doesn’t tell the whole story., The service and food were great. George our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. I I ordered the wedge salad with grilled shrimp. Amazing, I would highly recommend the wedge salad. My visit did not disappoint., Ordered the Tues special tacos which was tasty. Served with re-fried beans and sour cream on the sides. The two for one cosmopolitan was a big disappointment.Would have been best to order a wine if you ever want 2 for one..Just felt cheated and just want others who read this review think twice about ordering a mixed drink...Not worth it!, Update 9/14/2023:
After several more visits to Foxboro I have to downgrade my prior rating. I have been in twice with one friend and with multiple friends where the service was simply awful, and the food was middling to mediocre. People are smoking right outside the front door leaving you to walk through a cloud of cigarette smoke to enter the restaurant. They seem to cater mostly to locals who are loud boisterous and oftentimes vulgar. On our latest visit there were people in the kitchen and behind the bar who weren't even employees, including a gentleman with long hair and a very long beard wearing a hat and drinking out of his Yeti, standing in the kitchen talking to the staff. Just wasn't a very enjoyable or pleasant experience on either occasion.
I very much wanted to give Foxboro a five-star review. I stopped in for dinner on December 21st after having been here for lunch two to three times. The service at the bar was exemplary, the menu is really, really good, and I thought the drink prices were reasonable.
I ordered the zucchini appetizer. My only comment is that the zucchini is cut lengthwise, and is very thick, and it takes about 6 to 7 minutes for it to cool down to the temperature of lava so that you can take a bite. Just depends on how many blisters you want in the morning for how quickly you choose to eat it. It was very good, and there was plenty of it.
I ordered the pot roast as the entree. While it was satisfying it was also lacking in a few areas. It comes out looking like the Exxon Valdez crashed into the plate. Just a very dark brown lumpy plate. I might brighten it up with a few peas on top, and perhaps just a few pieces of lightly sauteed carrots to give it color. It was good but generally overcooked to make sure the celery and all the ingredients were done completely. Again, really nice portion and a very fair price for what was offered. I was satisfied.
My main criticism comes from the fact that there are a lot of regulars that come here, and as the name would imply, many of them are from New England. And they're not shy retiring types. I might stay away if I was bringing teenagers or my grandmother for dinner. People seem very comfortable screaming out alternative lyrics as songs are playing, and yelling out crude jokes across the room. As an example, a group yelled to another one: "Did you hear Lorena Bobbitt got remarried to a Russian? Her last name is now cutyourcockoff." This sort of banter went on my entire hour and 15 minutes there. If you want to quiet dinner I'm not sure this is the location.
I enjoyed the food, the drink, and started counting TVs and was surprised to get up to 35+. Quite the venue to watch a ball game or two. I just don't like it when customers think they are the entertainment and management caters to them versus the general customer.
However, I will be back., Foxboros is a good bar/restaurant establishment. We often come here during the off-season, so it's not super crowded. All of the bar food is well cooked and comes out piping hot. We enjoy the wings, mozzarella sticks, homemade chips and onion dip, and large wedge salads. During snowbird season expect a wait time or if there's a Boston game on.
